Deakin Volz

Deakin Volz joins TeamESSX as part of a long line of pole vaulters from Bloomington, Indiana. The Volz family is known for pole vaulting and a “controversial” rule was put in place because of Deakin’s father, Dave. However, Deakin rose to prominence in high school by setting the national high school record at 5.47m/17’11.5”. While in college at Virginia Tech, Deakin represented the USA at the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland and claiming the gold medal with a jump of 5.65m/18’6.5” and was a 6-time NCAA All-American with his best finish being the bronze medal at the 2016 Indoor NCAA Championships and the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Championships. Deakin’s current PBs are 5.72m/18’9.25” indoors and 5.71m/18’9” outdoors.
