Katie Moon
#TeamEssx is thrilled to bring American Katie Moon to the team! Katie hails from Olmstead Falls, Ohio and attended college at Ashland University. At Ashland, Katie was a 2-time NCAA Division II Champion and currently holds the #3 and #2 all-time marks in NCAA Division II indoor and outdoor history, respectively. Since leaving Ashland, Katie has risen to be one of the best pole vaulters in the world and in history. During her breakout year of 2015, Katie placed 3rd at the USA Indoor Championships and 4th at the USA Outdoor Championships. In 2018, Katie put her name in the history books by becoming one of just nine women to clear 4.90m/16’0.75” by making 4.91m/16’1.25” at the USA Indoor Championships while winning her first USA Championship. Since then, Katie has established herself as one of the best pole vaulters in the world and currently holds the world lead with a leap of 4.94m/16’2.25”, the 5th highest jump in history. In Katie’s “transition” to ESSX poles, she dominated the US Olympic Trials with a major clearance of 4.95m/16’2.75” and took a few shots at the World Record. Katie continued that success and jumped 4.90m/16’0.75” at the Tokyo Olympic Games to win the gold medal at her first Olympics. Katie continued her international success by winning the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, OR with a clearance of 4.85m/15’11”. Since then, she has defended her World Champion title in 2023 in Budapest.
She currently lives and trains in Atlanta, Georgia with former American Record holder Brad Walker.
